Vivienne Westwood & Jewellery
A seamless collaboration in acrylic innovation
Client: Stoane Lighting
Project: Vivienne Westwood & Jewellery Exhibition
Location: International touring exhibition
Manufactured by: Midton, Scotland
The Challenge
When it comes to displaying some of the world’s most iconic jewellery, every detail matters.
For the Vivienne Westwood & Jewellery international touring exhibition, Midton collaborated with fellow Scottish specialists Stoane Lighting to create a series of beautifully crafted acrylic display domes that would showcase the collection without distraction.
The challenge was in the manufacturing.
Traditionally, acrylic domes of this scale would be fabricated from multiple sections, bonded together to create the final shape. While functional, this process leaves visible joints and seam lines that can compromise the appearance of a high-end display.
For an exhibition celebrating the creativity, craftsmanship and distinctive design of Vivienne Westwood, an exceptional finish was essential.
The Midton Solution
One piece. No joins. No compromises.
Drawing on our specialist large-scale acrylic casting capabilities, Midton was able to completely rethink how these domes were manufactured.
Rather than producing individual sections and bonding them together, we created each dome as a single, seamless acrylic casting.
This approach eliminated the unsightly seam lines associated with traditional fabrication, delivering a beautifully uninterrupted surface with exceptional clarity.
The result was a refined, almost invisible display enclosure that allowed the jewellery to take centre stage.
Working alongside Stoane Lighting, whose bespoke lighting solutions were designed to illuminate the exhibits discreetly and precisely, the domes became part of a carefully considered display that celebrated the pieces within.
The Result
The finished domes demonstrate what can be achieved when specialist manufacturing expertise meets ambitious exhibition design.
By moving beyond conventional acrylic fabrication techniques, Midton delivered a solution that combined large-scale manufacturing capability with the flawless finish demanded by a world-class exhibition.
The seamless construction allowed visitors to appreciate the jewellery without the visual interruption of bonded joints, creating a cleaner, more elegant presentation.
The exhibition launched at the Museum of New Zealand Te Papa Tongarewa as part of an international touring programme.
