Frequently Asked Questions about Cast Acrylic
What is the difference between cast and extruded acrylic?
Cast acrylic is produced by pouring liquid resin into a mould and allowing it to cure resulting in a uniform thickness and clarity. Extruded acrylic is produced by pushing the material through rollers resulting in a wider range of thicknesses and a less consistent clarity.
What are the benefits of using cast acrylic over glass?
Cast acrylic is more impact-resistant than glass making it less likely to shatter or break. It is also lighter in weight and easier to work with than glass and can be cut and shaped using common woodworking tools.
Can cast acrylic be recycled?
Yes cast acrylic can be recycled. Midton manufactured recycled acrylic at our factory. Have a look at our recycling process and Remade products
What is the maximum temperature that acrylic can withstand?
Cast acrylic can withstand temperatures up to approximately 180 degrees Fahrenheit. At higher temperatures it can begin to soften and lose its shape.
What is the difference between cast acrylic and polycarbonate?
Cast acrylic and polycarbonate are both thermoplastic materials, but they have different properties. Cast acrylic is more rigid, scratch-resistant, and has better optical clarity than polycarbonate. Polycarbonate, on the other hand, is more impact-resistant and flexible than cast acrylic.
