Case Study
BrewDog Can Glorifiers for Hotel Room Numbers

Client: Brewdog
Project: Custom acrylic glorifiers used as hotel room numbers across BrewDog’s global hotel portfolio.
Location: Global
Manufactured by: Midton, Scotland

Overview

When BrewDog set out to create distinctive room numbers for their hotels, they wanted something that reflected the brand’s bold personality while celebrating their iconic beers. The idea was simple but impactful: embed real BrewDog cans inside crystal-clear acrylic blocks, with each can representing a specific room number and beer style.

Working with Midton, the concept was developed into a series of premium acrylic displays installed outside hotel rooms. Each glorifier features a BrewDog can embedded in crystal-clear acrylic with an illuminated fixing, transforming a functional room number into a striking brand showcase within the hotel corridors.

The Challenge

Embedding aluminium cans in acrylic presented several technical challenges.

Pressure Casting – Midton’s casting process operates under high pressure, which would normally cause a sealed can to collapse or explode.

To overcome this:

  • The original liquid contents were carefully removed
  • Each can was refilled to maintain internal structural pressure
  • This ensured the cans retained their original form during casting.

Protecting the Printed Artwork

Beer cans are printed using coatings that can react to heat and chemical exposure during casting.

  • Seal and protect the printed artwork
  • Prevent silvering or discolouration
  • Ensure every label retained its original colour, texture and detail.

Avoiding Silvering

A major challenge when embedding metallic objects in acrylic is air entrapment, which can create a silvering effect around the surface.

Through controlled casting techniques and preparation, Midton ensured:

  • Perfect clarity around the can
  • No visible air pockets
  • A clean “floating” appearance inside the acrylic.

Integrated Illumination

Each piece also required:

  • A discreet illuminated fixing
  • Secure wall mounting for hotel corridors
  • Consistent lighting to highlight the embedded can.

This allowed each glorifier to act as a small illuminated brand feature outside the room.

The Beer Range Embedded

Each hotel room number featured a different BrewDog beer style embedded inside the acrylic block, including:

  • Lost Lager, Light Speed, Clockwork, Juice Shack, Punk AF, Silk Road, Mega Trash Can Lager

Every can was individually prepared and cast to ensure consistent clarity and premium presentation.

The Result

The finished pieces delivered exactly what BrewDog envisioned:

  • A bold visual feature for hotel corridors
  • A celebration of BrewDog’s beer range
  • Durable, premium crystal-clear acrylic displays
  • A strong brand storytelling element for guests.

Each room number now doubles as a miniature showcase of BrewDog’s iconic beers, combining functional signage with striking design.
