Lendwithcare and Midton
Here at Midton, we are dedicated to continuously improving our efforts when it comes to ecological change.
This month, we established a new partnership.
Financially struggling families worldwide are already feeling the impacts of climate change. They are seeing first-hand how unpredictable rainfall patterns cause water shortages, reduce harvest and exacerbate hunger. This grant funding approach will provide the opportunity to directly support projects which either prevent CO2 emissions from being released into the atmosphere, or pro-actively absorb CO2 from the atmosphere, while also creating opportunities for low-income communities. At Midton, we are dedicated to reducing CO2 emissions.
Lendwithcare is an initiative of poverty fighting charity, CARE International UK, currently operating in eleven countries. The charity is a revolutionary way to help people in low-income countries, allowing them to work their way out of poverty with dignity. The scheme offers loans, funded by donations from the public.
An extension of this, is Lendwithcare’s innovative grant scheme, focused on CO2 reduction. This is where Midton comes in.
The grant scheme focuses on providing recipients with equipment for use in their day-to-day life. They receive this equipment free of charge, or at a subsidised cost. These climate positive grants prevent and/or absorb CO2 emissions, and thereby limit adverse climate change.
Currently, an improved cookstoves project is being run in India, implemented by CARE India and the Sustainable Household Energy (SHE) Group, established to support women in India. As well as CO2 reduction, this project also reduces; the time women and girls spend collecting firewood, indoor pollution and the incidence of respiratory diseases, and the rate of local deforestation and promotion of local biodiversity.
As we move forward, we will be working with our clients to choose a selection of projects to support each year , alongside our tree planting scheme. At Midton, we recognise the importance of not only helping the planet, but also our people. This scheme combines both missions in a way that combines support, independence, and dignity for its recipients.
