Our story of how we collaborated with the inspiring Christopher Kane
A Scottish fashion designer based in London, Christopher Kane has collaborated with the likes of Manolo Blahnik, Versace, and Atelier Swarovski. In 2013, he joined the Kering Group, joining the ranks of Gucci, Alexander McQueen and Balenciaga.
Kane’s 2016 Autumn/Winter collection, ‘Lost and Found’, explored the ideas of discarded beauty and reused materials.
Beauty exists in the expired and discarded.
Christopher Kane
This was a branding project taken to an entirely new level and it was Christopher Kane’s first major space within the new ‘Design Studio’.
How did we do it?
Christopher’s projects tapped into one of Midton’s key areas of expertise: encapsulation – sometimes referred to as acrylic embedment.
The Selfridges installation featured clear acrylic blocks which encased a variety of objects, from dead bugs and crumpled magazines to children’s tea cups.
The blocks, once finished, came together in a polished chrome frame to complete the installation.
The real challenge for Midton was the range of products Christopher Kane wanted to encapsulate, coupled with our ability to let go of the need for perfection.
The imperfections of the objects were in fact what made this project so successful – the combination of precision acrylic engineering and found objects.
